| The last Wednesday in July and the usual exodus to the New Forest, leaving us with a very depleted number at Middle Farm. However, there were sufficient leaders to make up the usual four rides and eventually we all finished up at Chalvington, some at the Cricket Pavilion and others in the pub. Roger & Pat have come home after their holiday for a nice rest before setting out again in a few weeks time and we welcomed visitors from Kent, even further afield Tunbridge Wells - Bob & Aly, who were at the 50k in March were so impressed with the lanes in this area that they caught the train from Ashford to Lewes and met us at the farm. Under Frank Hepden's careful guidance they arrived at the Yew Tree having had, they assured us, an enjoyable morning out. New member Julia Sears from H.H. also made her way to Middle Farm and was directed to a suitable ride but I forgot to check that she was well cared for. I expect she was as Barrie and Dave Healey were in charge. Don't forget that lunch booking forms are now available. |
We were back in Ringmer again today, this time enjoying the hospitality of Geoff & Jenny at the Bays. Lorraine was helping as usual and had baked some lovely brownies. Her next appearance will be at Mildenhall although she won't be baking for everyone. Somebody counted 40 people in the garden although I'm sure there were more than that and I'm not certain they'd counted Benjy. Anyway, G & J were very pleased to have raised £110 for the village hall fund. There appeared to be some reluctance for a few people to get going but eventually the Easyriders were able to set off for Arlington reservoir and the house was peaceful once more. Berwick Inn got a good rating, much improved since our last visit. I missed the picnickers but caught up with Bruce and John (Regan) at the turn off to Polegate and Wilmington where Les was just leaving them. Brian Barret headed for Hailsham when he left the pub hoping to catch the 3.30 bus, however he felt flexible and could well have ridden on to Heathfield or Uckfield John Beaumont was out today having successfully completed his End to End ride in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. He estimates that he will have raised around £1500 when he has collected all the promised pledges. I think he had a good time but there was no mention of roistering in the evenings after supper so like all good athletes he was early to bed after washing out his socks. I have to apologise to Mick Hills for including Jenny Boxall as a helper on the Tandem Club weekend. She was lazing at home in the bosom of her family whilst Mick was overseeing months of hard work put in by himself and Rose. Sorry Mick. Jenny was able to haul herself out of the sun lounger in the afternoon and accompanied her family to Drusilla's. She carefully refused to reply when I asked her how fast she could run - when I've tried the best I could do was a comparison with a hippopotamus. |
